“Oh, my adoring fans! What a terrible mess we’re in, aren’t we? Trapped in the room the chorus girls share! And this accusation of me, not sticking to my blocking? Ridiculous. Of course I don’t stick to my blocking. How dull. It’s my job to keep the performance fresh, isn’t it? Besides, if I wanted my blocking, I have it written it down in my script. Well, all the important parts at least, which is to say, how people move relative to me. Here, have a look.”
Below, we see a small portion of Mette’s script. It seems to have a character list attached to it and is littered with the actress’s unhelpful notes. However, they are not especially clear, and everyone’s positions and blocking are framed in relationship to her instead of normal stage directions.
